You’re invited! Advance screening of excerpts from Ken Burns’ new documentary on Leonardo da Vinci – November 6, 2024

WATERTOWN, NY (October 24, 2024) – WPBS-TV, the PBS affiliate serving the National Capital region, is delighted to present an exclusive preview screening and discussion of the latest film from Emmy award-winning and Oscar nominee Ken Burns. Inside the Mind of a Genius: Leonardo DaVinci, explores the work of the fifteenth century polymath and artist and how the legacy of his profound intellect remains relevant today. Esteemed scholar Angelo B. Mingarelli, Ph.D., Professor of Mathematics at Carleton University and an expert on Leonardo da Vinci, will provide additional context on this titan of science, art and mathematics. Join us at the Collabüro Coworking and Event Space, 499 Preston Street in Ottawa’s Little Italy on Wednesday, November 6 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public and is presented in partnership with the Preston Street BIA and the National Congress of Italian-Canadians in Ottawa.

Inside the Mind of a Genius: LEONARDO da VINCI is directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns, and David McMahon. The film, which explores the life and work of the fifteenth century polymath Leonardo da Vinci, is Burns’ first non-American subject. It also marks a significant change in the team’s filmmaking style, which includes using split screens with images, video, and sound from different periods to further contextualize Leonardo’s art and scientific explorations. LEONARDO da VINCI looks at how the artist influenced and inspired future generations, and it finds in his soaring imagination and profound intellect the foundation for a conversation we are still having today: what is our relationship with nature and what does it mean to be human?

The complete documentary premieres on WPBS-TV Monday, November 18 and Tuesday, November 19, from 8 – 10 pm.

Both episodes will be available to stream online at watch.wpbstv.org and pbs.org – or with the free PBS app and WPBS mobile app – beginning the night of the broadcast premiere on November 18. After four weeks of free streaming, the film will be available to watch on-demand with member benefit, WPBS Passport.
