WATERTOWN, NY: March 26, 2020 –
Responding to the need for educational resources for students as schools close due to the coronavirus, PBS WORLD Channel, in partnership with PBS LearningMedia, will begin broadcasting At Home Learning programs for grades 6-12 on Monday, March 30, from Monday – Friday, 12pm-5pm EST.
These daily free-over-the-air broadcasts will feature the best in public media science, history, and other educational programming. This At Home Learning block — suited to WORLD’s everyday schedule of news, information, and documentary programming — has been carefully curated and supplemented with related assets from PBS LearningMedia, a free online service of thousands of compelling educational resources. https://www.pbslearningmedia.org/
In our region, WPBS WORLD Channel is broadcast on on World channel 16.3/18.3 or Spectrum 1276 from 12pm-5pm.
“WPBS has already made changes to our 24/7 PBS Kids service afternoon block to provide New York state curriculum-aligned programming for middle and high school students,” said station president and General Manager Mark Prasuhn. “And of course, we continue to dedicate almost a quarter of the WPBS schedule to preschool/elementary kids programming. The addition of these WORLD At Home Learning programs geared to middle and high school students is a further step to serve families and educators across our region.”
“With a commitment to educational multimedia, WPBS delivers curriculum-based resources that support parents and teachers in achieving children’s learning goals,” said Celeste Oppito, Education & Lifelong Learning Partnership and Services Manager at WPBS. “We recognize that many families do not have access to high-speed internet or computers at home, so we are leveraging our public media TV broadcast channels to reach teachers, students and caregivers across the state.”
