Watertown, NY- March 26, 2014 – WPBS-TV, Watertown, NY presents the largest educational event in the area, the 18th Annual Ready, Set, Fun Bookfest! Join us May 10th, 2014 from 11am-2pm at our new location, the Bruce M. Wright Memorial Center, located at 1291 Faichney Drive, Watertown, NY.
The day will include 35 exhibits; free books (1 per family), a gently used book swap, the Scholastic Book Fair and a fashion show featuring the Urban Mission. Daniel Tiger, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Buddy the Dinosaur will be joining us as well as special guest storyteller, Regi Carpenter.
Regi grew up in the same small town on the Saint Lawrence River as her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Her stories speak to generations of a hard knock life lived gloriously. Regi is a professor of storytelling at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York as well as a teaching artist for students ages 4-22. A storyteller since 1996, Regi has performed at the National Storytelling Festival as well as many other national storytelling venues. She has been a storyteller in resident at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, Tennessee. She is also a recipient of the JJ Reneaux Emerging Artist Award, a Leonard Bernstein Teaching Fellowship Award, the Parent’s Choice Gold award, the Parents’ Guide to Children’s Media Award and the Storytelling World Award.
Each year over 1,500 children and parents join WPBS, our community vendors and local children’s authors for this literacy focused, hands on event. Admission to this event is the donation of a canned good or non-perishable food item. This year, collected items will be going to the food bank at the Urban Mission in Watertown.
