WPBS-TV Presents Special Programming for Canada Day on June 30, 2024

WATERTOWN, NY (June 24, 2024) – Canada Day is observed July 1st of each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Canada. It also commemorates the anniversary of the Constitution Act, marking the beginning of how present-day Canada came to be. WPBS-TV closes out the month of June by getting an early start on Canada Day celebrations. Join us for enlightening, enriching, and educational programs about Canada – some of them featuring locations right here in our region – on Sunday, June 30 from 12 noon to 5:00 pm.

SUNDAY, JUNE 30

Seeing Canada: Boating on the Rideau Canal (12 noon)

British Columbia Canadian journalist Brandy Yanchyk travels to Smith Falls, Ontario where she learns how to drive a luxury boat. Then, flies west across Canada to Abbotsford, British Columbia where she makes samosas.

Seeing Canada: 1000 Islands Helicopter Tour (12:30 pm)

Brandy Yanchyk travels to Carters Point, New Brunswick, visits with the Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq Nation, and goes to Gananoque, Ontario where she sees the magnificent 1000 islands in a helicopter tour.

Facing Waves: Kayaking the Ottawa River (1:00 pm)

Ken Whiting challenges himself with the huge rapids and epic surf waves of the Ottawa River. 

Facing Waves: Kayaking Quebec City (1:30 pm)

Ken Whiting explores the spectacular sea caves of les Iles de la Madeleine and then paddles through stunning river valleys in Jacques Cartier National Park.

Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope: Rideau Canal (2:00 pm)

Joseph begins his Rideau Canal journey in Ottawa where he explores the capital’s diverse neighborhoods, historic landmarks, farmer’s markets and hip restaurants.

Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope: 1000 Islands (2:30 pm)

On this Canadian adventure Joseph goes in search of the gentile pleasures that are synonymous with the islands – a place rich in natural wonders, historic sites and island traditions.

Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope: Montreal, Quebec (3:00 pm)

By taking to Montreal’s streets, neighborhoods, natural places and waterways, Joseph discovers that joie du vivre is not just a French phrase; it’s a way of life in Montreal.

Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope: Quebec City (4:30 pm)

Joseph heads to Quebec City, the only walled city north of Mexico, for a lively cultural adventure among the French-speaking Quebecois.

Seeing Canada: Banff National Park (4:00 pm)

Canadian journalist Brandy Yanchyk explores Banff National Park in a vintage-style 1930s automobile with Open Top Touring.

Seeing Canada: Nova Scotia and Quebec (4:30 pm)

Brandy Yanchyk boards an expedition vessel and explores Sable Island, the Magdalene Islands, Bonaventure Island, Gros Morne National Park and Cape Breton Island.

Music & the Spoken Word: Symbol of a Nation (6:30 pm)
