WPBS-TV Presents Special Programing in November for Veteran’s Day and Remembrance Day

WATERTOWN, NY (October 28, 2024) – WPBS-TV invites viewers to enjoy special programming in honor of Veteran’s Day/Remembrance Day, starting November 3, 2024. Audiences can travel back to some of the most significant moments of World War II, remembering the soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom – and the risk-takers, like journalist Robert Reuben, who dropped in to witness those stories in person. The line-up includes:

November 3, 2024

Dear Sirs (3:30 pm) After discovering an archive detailing the horrifying journey of his grandfather as an American POW during World War II, a young man from Wyoming sets out 75 years later to retrace his footsteps across Germany on bicycle.

November 10, 2024

Dad’s Secret War: France 1944 (12:00 pm) The riveting, true story of an American who joined the British SOE and was parachuted into France just after D-Day to organize the French Resistance into a cohesive army. Narrated by actor Kevin Bacon.

Woody Williams: An Extraordinary Life of Service (1:00 pm) A chronicle of the life of Hershel “Woody” Williams, America’s last living World War II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.

Canada Remembers Our Heroes: War Brides (2:00 pm) Veterans’ stories that represent the untold sacrifices endured by all men and women who served with Honor and Distinction.

The Eyes of the Word: From D-Day to VE Day (3:00 pm) Veterans’ stories that represent the untold sacrifices endured by all men and women who served with Honor and Distinction.

Peleliu: WWII’s Most Well-Preserved Battlefield (3:00 pm) One of the most distinctive fights of World War II takes place on a small island in Palau, Micronesia. Now a historical landmark, the remote island remains similar to what it was like in 1944, after 72 days of fighting with the Japanese.

Running Towads the Fire: A War Correspondent’s Story (4:00 pm) At 25 years old, Robert Reuben became the first journalist to land in Normandy to witness the invasion during WWII.

Salute to Service 2024: A Veteran’s Day Celebration (9:00 pm) Hosted by country music superstar Mickey Guyton, this heartfelt special honors our nation’s heroes, past and present, and reminds us of the enduring spirit and unity that their service brings to America.

Independent Lens: Make peace or Die – Honor the Fallen (10:00 pm) “Make Peace or Die” is the motto of 1st Battalion, 5th Marines. Anthony Marquez dedicates himself to finding peace for himself and healing for the families of those lost.
