WPBS-TV Presents a Week Long of Music Specials June 1-9, 2024

WATERTOWN, NY (MAY 28, 2024) – WPBS kicks off the Summer early with a potent lineup of new music concert specials – along with some classic favorites – from Saturday, June 1 to Sunday, June 9, 2024.

SATURDAY, JUNE 1
A FULL DAY OF COUNTRY MUSIC

Kenny Rogers Live in Concert (2:00 pm)

Celebrate the worldwide music icon in a concert at the peak of his popularity in 1983.

The Highwaymen Live at Nassau Coliseum (3:30 pm)

Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson perform live in 1990.

Johnny Cash: Man in Black (5:00 pm)

Join the “Man in Black” for an evening of country, rockabilly, American roots music and spirituals.

Last of the Breed (6:30 pm)

Celebrate the greatest hits of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Ray Price in this 2007 concert. The three legends give rousing performances on a treasure trove of honky-tonk and Texas swing tunes.

Academy of Country Music Honors (8:00 pm)

The 16th Annual ACM Honors celebrates the accomplishments of Clint Black, Tim McGraw, Chris Stapleton, and more from the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Darius Rucker: Live from Nashville (9:30 pm)

Three-time Grammy Award winner Darius Rucker performs songs from his latest album, Carolyn’s Boy, along with Hootie & the Blowfish classics and his solo country hits.

SUNDAY, JUNE 2

Willie Nelson Live at Budokan (12 noon)

Filmed at Budokan, the famous martial arts hall, this 1984 Tokyo concert features an amazing collection of Nelson’s greatest hits. 

Seven Ages of Elvis (3:00 pm)

Delve deeply into the life and world of Elvis, revealing the true evolution of modern pop music – and explore why Elvis became an even bigger phenomenon after his death.

Elvis ’68 Comeback Special (5:00 pm)

Watch rock history being made as Elvis performs some of the best music of his life.

Arrival from Sweeden: Music of ABBA (6:30 pm)

Experience another band that’s a Swedish sensation as they perform ABBA’s greatest hits.

Elton John – Million Dollar Piano (8:00 pm)

Legendary singer, songwriter and performer Elton John made a triumphant return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas with this spectacular and critically acclaimed concert.

Celine Dion Taking Chances World Tour (9:30 pm)

Relive the magical moments of Celine Dion’s record-breaking, sold-out 2008-09 Taking Chances World Tour.

MONDAY, JUNE 3

Chicago & Friends Live at 55 (7:00 pm)

Performing their greatest hits, the band is joined by some very special guests at Ovation Hall at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City on a custom-built LED stage. 

P!nk: Live from Wembley Arena (8:30 pm)

P!nk’s final sold-out I’m Not Dead tour date at London’s famed Wembley Arena in 2006 is captured. Fantastic acrobatics, elaborate stage sets, sizzling costumes – viewers will find it all in this concert.

James Taylor: One Man Band (10:00 pm)

James Taylor’s most important songs, interspersed with personal anecdotes and more.

TUESDAY, JUNE 4

Gospel Live! Presented by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. (7:00 pm)

A concert celebration honoring the legacy of Gospel music in America.

American Pop Flashback: Great Hits of 60’s & 70’s (8:30 pm)

Hosted by Micky Dolenz of the Monkees, celebrate the feel-good songs of the 60s and 70s with a dazzling cavalcade of stars. 

John Denver Rocky Mountain High (10:00 pm)

Filmed in 1974 at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, the concert features Denver performing in his prime at this stunning outdoor venue.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5

Doo Wop, Pop & Soul Generations (2:30 pm)

Celebrate the legacy of the music of the 50s and 60s with a new generation of artists.

THURSDAY, JUNE 6

Love Train Sound of Philadelphia (3:30 pm)

Enjoy a dynamic concert featuring soul and R&B superstars, along with the 28-piece TSOP Orchestra.

FRIDAY, JUNE 7

Sheryl Crow: Live from Nashville (7:30 pm)

Sheryl Crow performs her greatest hits and several songs from her new album Evolution at a hometown concert at the Franklin Theatre in Nashville, taping in March 2024.

Rolling Stones: GRRR Live! (9:00 pm)

Featuring guest spots from The Black Keys, Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen, and more, this 2012 concert in Newark, NJ proved to be one of the most memorable shows in the band’s history.

SATURDAY, JUNE 8

Country’s Legendary Duets (8:00 pm)

Look back at some of the great country music duet performers of all time. Hosted by Tre Twitty and Tayla Lynn.

George Jones Still Playin’ Possum (9:30 pm)

Honor one of the most beloved stars in country music history with this all-star tribute concert featuring Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Wynonna, Jelly Roll, and more.

SUNDAY, JUNE 9

Johnny Mathis Wonderful Wonderful (5:00 pm)

Recorded at The Tropicana in Atlantic City on October 27, 2006 in celebration of his 50 years in show business, Johnny Mathis performs many of his hits.

Judy Collins Wildflowers in Concert (6:30 pm)

Filmed before a live audience at Town Hall in New York City, this concert special features the legendary folk singer performing her groundbreaking 1967 album, Wildflowers, plus additional favorites. 

Simon & Garfunkel: Concert in Central Park (9:30 pm)

Join the iconic duo and the more 500,000 fans who came out for this once-in-a-lifetime 1981 benefit concert for the world’s most famous urban park.
