WPBS-TV, the PBS affiliate serving Northern New York and Eastern Ontario with the finest public media content, announced today the launch of a new Legacy Giving strategy and associated services.  This announcement coincides with National Estate Planning Awareness Week (NEPAW), which was designated by an act of Congress in 2008 to fall in the third week in October with the objective of assisting the public in understanding the importance and benefits of estate planning.

WPBS was founded in 1958 as a 501.c (3) non-profit organization, and over the years has been a recipient of many charitable gifts and bequests, which have enabled WPBS to serve the mission of making high-quality educational content freely available to all across our region.

“With over 27 years of non-profit fundraising experience here in upstate New York, I joined the team at WPBS earlier this year with a focus on bringing our development team to a whole new level using strategy and vision” stated Deborah Bleier, Director of Development. “I’m convinced there is an incredible opportunity to match the objectives of donors who wish to leave a legacy that will touch the lives of thousands of North Country residents, with the production and distribution of content that advances education/lifelong learning and civic engagement, along with associated training and outreach to teachers, students, parents and educators.”

Beginning with a whole new user-friendly section on the WPBS website – https://www.wpbstv.org/ways-to-support/legacy-gifts/ , WPBS is also rolling out other initiatives in the coming weeks including:

  • A targeted legacy giving member campaign
  • On-air spots and testimonials regarding Legacy Giving
  • Launch of a Leadership Giving campaign and revamp of the WPBS Spotlight Society
  • Virtual educational and social webinars/events
  • Development of resources to assist individuals with estate planning
  • Production of documentary and informational content supported in part by recently received bequests and donations
