The annual WPBS Fundraising Auction (formerly the “All Star Auction”) is a longstanding and beloved North Country tradition which marks its 50th anniversary in 2020. Over the years, tens of thousands of items mostly donated by local small businesses, have been auctioned off to support educational public media in our region. In March, just as final preparations for this year’s auction were underway, the pandemic forced the postponement of the event. After considerable research and redesign WPBS staff developed a model which can be conducted safely in this era of social distancing.
WPBS is proud to present a fresh new auction format combining an online and live-on-air event. The first stage, an online auction preview, will be available starting Wednesday, September 2nd at noon at wpbstv.org/auction.
Online bidding opens September 14th at noon, also on wpbstv.org/auction. Assistance will be available for those who cannot access the online guide at 315-782-3142 ext. 301. The final stage of the auction, a live broadcast on WPBS, will take place over 5 consecutive evenings from Thursday, September 24th through Monday, September 28th from 7 pm to 10 pm each evening (6 pm to 9 pm on Sunday, September 27th).
Since 1958, WPBS has contributed to the quality of life across our region with the finest commercial free children’s programming, trusted news and current affairs, music and performance programs, stories of local interest, lifestyle and health series, and exceptional science and history documentaries. All of this has been made possible through the kind support of many members of our community.
We are grateful to the many local businesses across our region who support the auction with their generous donations, and encourage everyone to support them during this challenging time.
