WPBS-TV ANNOUNCES WINNERS FROM THE 2018 PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST

WPBS-TV announced the winners from the annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest, www.wpbstv.org/writerscontest, designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active story telling. The contest empowers children in grades K-3 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.

“WPBS-TV is committed to providing fun opportunities for students to express their creativity,” said Heather O’Hara, Outreach Manager of WPBS-TV. The PBS KIDS Writers Contest helps children build valuable literacy skills for success in school and life.

An awards ceremony was hosted at the WPBS-TV Community Room, Wednesday, May 23rd, honoring the winners of this year’s Writers Contest. The ceremony included a video montage of the children reading their winning entries, presentation of certificates and a prize pack. The evening ended with refreshments and cake. The winners are listed below:

Kindergarten
1st – Madison C. – “The Dragon that Couldn’t Breathe Fire”
2nd – Elizabeth T. – “Mary is a Skater”
3rd – Abigail W. – “Patrick the Pug”

First Grade
1st – Grace B. – “Being a Good Easter Bunny”
2nd – Benjamin L. – “The Ocean Who Likes the Man”
3rd – Olivia L. – “What does Santa do after Christmas”

Second Grade
1st – Aiden C. – “The Lost Leprechaun”
2nd – Joseph Z. – “Ronald and the Chocolate Factory”
3rd – Josh S. – “The Eagle that Needed Glasses”

Third Grade
1st – Eva D. – “Carrot’s Revenge”
1st – Kloe R. – “Where Did Everyone Go?”
2nd – Sylvia P. – “The Jungle”
3rd – Alexis K. – “The Mystery Ring”

All entries are judged by a team of volunteers representing professions from the North Country Library System retired teachers and local authors.
