WPBS-TV ANNOUNCES WINNERS FROM PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST

 Watertown, NY- June 1, 2017 –WPBS-TV announced the winners from the annual PBS KIDS Writers Contest, www.wpbstv.org/writerscontest, designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning.  The Contest empowers children in grades K-3 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.

“WPBS-TV is committed to providing fun opportunities for the North Country area kids to express their creativity,” said Heather O’Hara, Outreach Manager of WPBS-TV.  “The PBS KIDS Writers Contest helps the North Country children build valuable literacy skills for success in school and life.”

An Awards Ceremony was held at WPBS-TV’s Community Room, Tuesday, May 30^th, honoring the winners of this year’s Writers Contest.  The ceremony included a video montage of the children reading their stories, presentation of certificates and a prize pack.  The evening ended with refreshments and cake.  The winners are listed below:

Kindergarten

1^st – Olivia Lehman – “Kittens’ Day Out”

First Grade

1^st – Declan Coakley – “The Most Awesome Save Ever”

2^nd –Ashlan Foster – “The Rollercoaster”

Second Grade

1^st– Kaylyn Parker – “The Fox That Wasn’t Shy”

2^nd – Gabriel Cooper – “The Famous Tiger”

3^rd– Jaslene Williams – “The Friendly Panther”

Third Grade

1^st – Jocelyn Widrick – “OH-PUH”
