WPBS Presents Special Programming April 6 in Honor of National Autism Awareness Month

WATERTOWN, NY (April 2, 2025) – WPBS is proud to present a special lineup of programming on Sunday, April 6, 2025, in honor of National Autism Awareness and Acceptance Month. This curated selection of content aims to highlight the strengths, abilities, and unique contributions of individuals on the autism spectrum, fostering greater understanding and acceptance. Featured programming includes:

APRIL 6, 2025

More Than a Medal (11:30 am) A documentary showcasing the athletes and competitions of the New York State Summer Olympics held at Ithaca College.

Understanding Autism (12 noon) Follow director Scott Steindorff on his journey to understand his own autism, and in doing so, he discovers the incredible diversity of gifts and challenges experienced by autistic individuals and their families.

Employment Matters (1:00 pm) Explore the untapped market and huge potential of the intellectually disabled in the workplace. 

Employment Matters Too (1:30 pm) Discover how large corporations benefit from hiring employees with intellectual disabilities.

Additionally, PBS KIDS will air special episodes of Carl the Collector, Donkey Hodie, Elinor Wonders Why, and Sesame Street, each featuring unique characters on the autism spectrum. These episodes emphasize the importance of acceptance and teach young viewers to appreciate differences in a positive, inclusive way.
