WPBS Weekly: Inside the Stories will premiere on Tuesday, April 13th at 7:30 pm. This half hour magazine format program will explore compelling stories from all across Northern New York and Eastern Ontario. Stories that reflect the six core themes of the program – education, arts & culture, business, tourism, science & technology and the environment/outdoors – as well as celebrating the history, music and varied cuisine of our region.

Airing every Tuesday evening in primetime, between the nightly news lineup and Finding Your Roots (one of the highest-rated weekly programs on the PBS schedule), and repeating Saturday mornings at 7 beginning on May1, WPBS Weekly: Inside the Stories will be hosted by experienced talk show host Stephfond Brunson. Stephfond’s upbeat, curious and authentic presence will animate the program and take viewers on an incomparable journey across our region, uncovering unique and often untold stories that make us who we are. The programs can also be viewed at watch.wpbstv.org.

The launch of this series will also fuel a significant expansion in the WPBS Digital Studios platform. Mark Prasuhn, President & General Manager of WPBS-TV, stated that “the concept for this program initially arose from a desire to increase WPBS presence across digital and social media platforms. In consulting with other PBS stations I learned that most of them produced weekly current or public affairs programs with associated short digital content. The concept was shaped with input from the WPBS Community Advisory Board and we also set up content-sharing arrangements with other media outlets across our region – especially important right now as the border is closed. The WPBS in-house production team has worked extremely hard to create this new series and I couldn’t be more proud and excited to share their excellent work with our viewers.”

WPBS Weekly: Inside the Stories represents the first program of its kind produced at WPBS-TV, but also builds on a 60-year history of excellence in storytelling, and is a powerful embodiment of the organization’s mission to “educate, inform and engage our two-nation region with exceptional and trusted content across multiple platforms.” “It’s a way for us to really showcase our broadcast region of Northern New York and Eastern Ontario,” says WPBS-TV’s Director of Production and Executive Producer, Tracy DuFlo. “We’ve built a solid reputation of producing documentaries every year. But this gives us an opportunity to really get out in our communities on a more regular basis and tell our viewers the great stories our region has to offer.”

Don’t miss this exciting new series each Tuesday evening, right here on WPBS! We always welcome feedback and suggestions – if you know of a story that be suitable for the program please reach out to our production team at wpbsweekly@wpbstv.org.
