Watertown, NY – WPBS-DT has announced the premiere of their latest 13-part series, Fishing Behind the Lines with Don Meissner, on Monday nights at 7:30PM beginning on June 10. In each episode, soldiers share their experiences in the military while fishing is introduced as a natural way to relieve stress region.  The series invokes the soldier’s story, their lives serving in the United States Military, the effect on their families, and their overall life experiences.

According to Don, “This series means more than fishing and celebrating our region.  It really gets down to highlighting the most basic forms of humanity and how we connect to people through recreation.  This program will reduce prejudices and build bridges with our military community.

Fishing Behind the Lines with Don Meissner will be the first series produced by WPBS-DT to be offered to other stations in the PBS network by a nationally recognized program distributor since the station last produced Bill Saiff’s Rod & Reel, Rod & Reel Streamside and Cabin Country. Several PBS stations nationwide have already committed to carriage of the series.

A repeat of the series is scheduled on WPBS-DT for Saturday mornings at 9:00AM beginning June 15.  Each episode will also be available for streaming online and on mobile devices, one week after each original broadcast at the stations video player website, watch.wpbstv.org.

Production of the series for national distribution is sponsored by American Military University, Oswego County, and the St. Lawrence-North Country Foundation with its cooperating partners. Support for the local broadcast is from FISHCAP and North Country Savings Bank.

More information about the series, including episode descriptions, screenshots and promos are available on the component website at wpbstv.org/fishingbehindthelines.
