Watertown, NY – WPBS-DT, Watertown public television, was pleased to host the Whiz Quiz Award Ceremony, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the WPBS-DT station.
The 2013 Whiz Quiz Champions are from Carthage Central High School, Carthage, New York. The Carthage Team, led by Advisor Jennifer Hanno, demonstrated the academic knowledge necessary to win the American Competition. Twenty-nine American high schools competed in the single elimination tournament. They went on to compete against the Canadian Bayridge Secondary School in the 2013 International Whiz Quiz Competition, with CarthageCentral High School prevailing.
The team was presented with scholarship money made possible in part by the United States Air Force. Presenting the check to the Carthage Central team, were LtCol John Hutcheson/313th Recruiting Squadron Commander, MSgt Kelly David Lomber/313th Recruiting Squadron Marketer, and MSgt Matthew StOnge/313th Enlisted Accessions Recruiter.
Whiz Quiz is produced locally by WPBS-DT and filming takes place annually in October and November. It airs on WPBS-DT October through December. Corporate support for Whiz Quiz is provided by Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, Community Bank, Jefferson Community College, Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, and SUNY North Country Consortium. Scholarships for the winning teams are provided in part by the United States Air Force.
