Watertown, NY – WPBS-DT, Watertown public television, just completed the 34th season of Whiz Quiz with host Glenn Gough and is pleased to announce the 2013 Whiz Quiz Champions.
The 2013 American Whiz Quiz Champions are from Carthage Central High School, Carthage, New York. The Carthage Team, led by Advisor Jennifer Hanno, demonstrated the academic knowledge necessary to win the American Competition. Twenty-nine American high schools competed this year in the single elimination tournament.
WPBS-DT is also pleased to congratulate the 2013 Canadian Whiz Quiz Champions, Bayridge Secondary School from Kingston, Ontario. Bayridge Secondary School, with their Advisor Cindy Eccles, captured the winning title over the four Canadian teams that competed. Canadian Whiz Quiz allows WPBS-DT to reach out to the Canadian high schools in our viewing area and to celebrate academic excellence on both sides of the border to better represent our broadcast community.
Carthage Central and Bayridge Secondary School competed in the 2013 International Whiz Quiz Competition, with Carthage Central High School prevailing.
Corporate support for Whiz Quiz is provided by Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, Community Bank, Jefferson Community College, Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, and SUNY North Country Consortium. Scholarships for the winning teams are provided in part by the United States Air Force.
Whiz Quiz is produced locally by WPBS-DT and filming takes place annually in October and November. It airs on WPBS-DT October through December. Matches may also be viewed on our website at www.wpbstv.org for friends and family out of our viewing area.
