WPBS is excited to announce that, after a COVID hiatus in 2020, the much-beloved high school trivia competition, Whiz Quiz, will be returning for its 41st season! Students will be back in the WPBS studio as 24 teams representing local schools from Jefferson, Lewis, and surrounding counties carry on the legacy of the North Country’s longest running academic quiz show.

Teams of 4 will compete in 4 rounds, following the game’s traditional format. From thinking fast to one-on-one faceoffs, students will answer questions related to a variety of topics including Geography, Math, and Literature. Host Joleene DesRosiers will also be returning to lead these stellar scholars through each game in the competition.

“The disruptions of the pandemic impacted our young people in many ways, curtailing many of the activities and opportunities normally available to them in high school,” said Mark Prasuhn, President & General Manager of WPBS. “After making a number of modifications to the production, we are confident we can conduct Whiz Quiz safely. I’m so proud of our team for their hard work and determination to make this very special celebration of academic excellence available to North Country students again this year.”

Taping for Whiz Quiz will start Monday, October 18th, and episodes will be broadcast on WPBS-TV each weeknight (except Thursday) at 7:30pm beginning Monday, November 1st through Friday, December 17th. All matches will also be available for online viewing at watch.wpbstv.org. For more information about Whiz Quiz, please visit wpbstv.org/whizquiz.
