Watertown, NY (October 15, 2019) – WPBS is pleased to announce that the longest running academic quiz show in New York, Whiz Quiz, will return for its 40th year this fall. This year, WPBS has brought on new host, Joleene Moody who brings over 15 years experience in television news, production, and filmmaking . She started her on-camera career as television reporter and anchor in upstate New York, and she even played a reporter in a feature film and in Ben Stiller’s mini-series, Escape at Dannemora.
Whiz Quiz celebrates the academic excellence of high school students in our region. Whiz Quiz will air Monday through Friday at 7:30pm beginning October 21st and will continue through December with championship matches. All matches will be available for streaming every Friday at watch.wpbstv.org. More information about Whiz Quiz can be found at wpbstv.org/whizquiz.
Whiz Quiz hosts thirty-one high schools from Jefferson, Lewis, Franklin, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties. The competition is a single-elimination format and the winning team will take home the Glenn Gough Honorary Scholarship.
Community support for Whiz Quiz is provided by Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, and by the Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, including SUNY Canton, Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, and St. Lawrence University. Scholarships for the winning teams are provided in part by National Grid, and by the Rotary Club of Watertown Youth Committee, Watertown Evening Rotary and the Rotary Club of Potsdam. Additional support provided by Jefferson Community College.
