What hurricane recovery looks like in North Carolina

Weeks after Hurricane Helene caused historic flooding in the Western North Carolina, residents are still trying to recover. In Asheville’s River Arts District, where entire buildings went underwater, local artists were taking what little materials remained to help prop up nearby mobile homes, PBS News’ Laura Barrón-López reports.

The storm destroyed water lines and roads, making access to basic supplies difficult. President Joe Biden deployed FEMA to the area to aid in recovery efforts.

Barrón-López shares what she saw in a local mobile home community, where one resident shared they’ve been without safe drinking water for almost three weeks.
