Democratic running mate Gov. Tim Walz said in his closing statement during the vice presidential debate Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris has built a diverse coalition that is united in their optimism.
“They don’t all agree on everything, but they are truly optimistic people. They believe in a positive future of this country,” Walz said.
“The idea that freedom really means something — not the freedom of government to be in your bedroom or exam room, but the freedom for you to make choices about yourself.”
Vance and Walz are facing each other in their first, and possibly last, vice presidential debate, hosted by CBS in New York on Oct. 1.
Both are relatively unknown to the broader American public. Walz was a U.S. House member before becoming governor of Minnesota. Vance is in his first term as a senator from Ohio.
