In an exclusive interview with the PBS NewsHour, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said he “trusts Russia just as much” as the West.
“I have no reason not to trust them. To the extent that the West is reliable, Russia is equally reliable,” he told the NewsHour’s Amna Nawaz.
Erdoğan was also asked about Moscow breaking off a deal partly brokered by Turkey that would get Ukrainian grain into the world’s markets. The Turkish leader said he still trusts Russia, despite this development. Erdoğan is in the United States to attend the U.N. General Assembly.
This was produced and edited by Morgan Till, Teresa Cebrián Aranda, Dan Sagalyn, Yasmeen Alamiri, Timothy McPhillips, Julia Griffin and Steff Staples.
