Former President Donald Trump said the deal he helped negotiate with the Taliban for the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan would’ve been executed faster than President Joe Biden’s plan.
Trump also said the operation his administration had planned would not have seen any U.S. casualties.
During the U.S. military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, an Islamic State suicide bombing at the Kabul Airport killed 13 U.S. service members and roughly 170 Afghan civilians.
“We were getting out and we would have been out faster than them, but we wouldn’t have lost the soldiers we wouldn’t have left many Americans behind and we wouldn’t have left $85 billion worth of brand new beautiful military equipment behind. They blew it.”
Harris and Trump met for their first and possibly only debate on Sept. 10, hosted by ABC in Philadelphia. Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee this summer after Biden gave a troubling debate performance in June, increasing calls for him to drop out of the race.
According to the latest PBS News/NPR/Marist poll, more than two-thirds of Americans say they will watch all or most of the debate. While many voters have already made up their minds, 14 percent of Americans say the debate will have a great impact on which candidate they choose.
