WATCH: Torrential rain floods parts of New York City

A morning deluge of rainwater in the New York City metropolitan area shutdown parts of the subway system, delayed flights into LaGuardia Airport and made many streets treacherous.

At least 5 inches of rain fell in the region overnight and as much as 7 inches more could fall throughout the day Friday.

Gov. Kathy Hochul issued a state of emergency for the impacted regions and urged residents to stay safe and avoid traveling on flooded roads.
