Warning: This video includes footage of a shooting death.
As House Democrats made their case Feb. 10 in former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif, showed previously unreleased audio and video that showed the violence instigated by the pro-Trump supporters who invaded the U.S. Capitol as well as footage of Capitol police officers trying to protect elected officials and staffers inside. It also showed insurrectionists searching various Senators’ desks inside the Senate chamber, including that of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
Footage showed insurrectionists assaulting Capitol police officers in a number of locations around the building. It also shows Ashley Babbit, a member of the mob, trying to advance down a hallway before she was shot by an officer.
Swalwell and other House impeachment managers are making a case this week that Trump should be convicted on a charge of inciting insurrection during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office. Trump’s lawyers will also have a chance to defend the former president during the trial.
