House Speaker Mike Johnson officially declared former President Donald Trump the Republican nominee for president Monday at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, two days after an assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The suspected shooter, who was killed by law enforcement, killed one person and seriously injured two.
On the first day of the convention, 2,387 state delegates from across the country cast their votes for Trump to be the party nominee. The former president also announced his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.
The Republican National Convention kicks off Monday, July 15, in Milwaukee against the backdrop of an apparent assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump this weekend.
