WATCH: Sen. Blumenthal on why Jackson could help restore trust in Supreme Court

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., noted the importance of the high court maintaining credibility during the Senate Judiciary Committee’s March 21 hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

“The Supreme Court has no armies, no police force to enforce its decisions,” Blumenthal said. “Its authority depends on its credibility.”

Blumenthal expressed concern that the high court has been “losing the trust and respect of the American people,” and hopes Jackson will “help to restore that trust.”

Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman on the high court.
