Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff will be the next senator from California.
The longtime congressman defeated Republican Steve Garvey in a special election to fill the Senate seat that was once held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Feinstein died in September 2023 at the age of 90.
Speaking at his victory party, Schiff told supporters he would not rest in the Senate.
“I will be a champion and voice for all Californians, whether you voted for me or not, whether you live in the big city or a small county, whether you grew up here or came to America searching for a better life,” Schiff said.
A Republican hasn’t won a Senate race in California since 1988.
