Former President Barack Obama reflected on his long-held relationship with President Joe Biden as partners in office for eight years and “brothers” beyond those two terms.
Obama complimented not only Biden’s intelligence, but also his empathy and “unshakeable belief that everyone in this country deserves a fair shot.”
He credited the United States’ recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic to Biden’s steady leadership and selflessness to “do the rarest thing there is in politics: [put] his own ambition aside for the sake of the country.”
Obama concluded with one last emotional message to his close friend and colleague.
“We’ll remember Joe Biden as an outstanding president who defended democracy at a moment of great danger,” Obama said. “And I am proud to call him my president, but I am even prouder to call him my friend.”
Later in the week, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will formally accept their nominations as the party’s candidates.
