Former Green Bay Packers quarterback and businessman Brett Favre has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, the retired NFL player said during a hearing of the House and Ways Committee on Tuesday.
Favre was speaking as part of testimony about a welfare funds scandal in Mississippi that he participated in. Favre has repaid over $1 million in speaking fees that were paid as part of the scandal. The state is still pursuing him over interest payments for the fees.
Favre said he was also an investor in a biotech company that had said it was developing treatments for concussions. Favre said he has lost the investment in the company which he thought was “developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others.”
“As I’m sure you’ll understand, while it’s too late for me — I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s — this is also a cause dear to my heart,” Favre said.
