Janet Yellen, President-elect Joe Biden’s pick for secretary of the treasury, testified in a Senate confirmation hearing Jan. 19. If confirmed, she will be the first woman to serve in the role; she was also the first woman to serve as chair of the Federal Reserve, a position she held from 2014 to 2018. The hearing was one of several happening across Capitol Hill Tuesday as lawmakers took their first steps toward formalizing Biden’s Cabinet.
