WATCH: ‘I don’t think people realize’ how much abuse affects us, Aly Raisman says

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., questioned Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney, Maggie Nichols and Aly Raisman on Sept. 15 as part of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing into the FBI’s handling of allegations against Larry Nassar. The former USA Gymnastics doctor was convicted in 2018 of sexually abusing young female athletes in his care. Booker noted that what happened with Nassar’s investigation is systemic and that change is going to take time. He asked if anyone from the panel had any words for Americans who need to understand that “we are playing a part in a culture that allows this to happen.” Olympic athlete Raisman told Booker that appearing before the committee was “taking everything I have,” and that processing her abuse and sharing her story would be so exhausting she wouldn’t be able to shower standing up.
