Trumpeter Chris Botti and guitarist Leonardo Amuedo performed an arrangement of Leonard Cohen’s classic “Hallelujah” in tribute to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright during her funeral service on April 27.
The duo performed the song between eulogies by President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton at the Washington National Cathedral.
Albright died in March at the age of 84 after a battle with cancer. Albright, the first woman to serve as secretary of state, was also a child of Czech refugees who fled from a Nazi invasion. She used her experience growing up in communist Yugoslavia and fleeing to the U.S. to inform her work on world affairs, becoming a staunch defender of democracy and human rights.
