WATCH: Former Kavanaugh law clerk says Jackson has ‘wealth of experience’ and is ‘well-respected’

Jennifer Mascott, a former Kavanaugh law clerk, praised Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on March 24, the final day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings for the historic nominee.

Mascott said the hearings have so far demonstrated that Jackson “has a wealth of experience and is very well respected.”

Mascott also said Jackson’s hearing responses and her prior body of work does not suggest she’d follow originalism when reading the U.S. Constitution. Originalism is the methodology of interpreting the Constitution with its “original meaning” at the time of its adoption.

After three days of testimony from Jackson and questions from senators, the committee will hear from professional and personal witnesses who can speak to Jackson’s work and her character. Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. After the hearings conclude, the committee will issue a recommendation in preparation for a full Senate vote. If confirmed, Jackson will be the first Black woman on the high court.
