Del. Stacey Plaskett, D-Virgin Islands, spoke Feb. 10 as House Democrats made their case for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting insurrection during the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Plaskett showed previously unreleased footage of pro-Trump supporters breaking into the Capitol following Trump’s Jan. 6 rally. She said the insurrection reminded her of the 9/11 attacks, when she was a staffer in the Capitol building. She thanked the 44 Americans who stopped the plane headed to the Capitol on 9/11 and said the building still stands because of them.
