Claims that criticizing the Israeli government is antisemitic “sets a very dangerous precedent,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib warned during a debate on a motion to formally censure her in the House of Representatives.
“It’s being used to silence diverse voices speaking up for human rights across our nation,” Tlaib said. Tlaib, the sole Palestinian American in Congress, is facing a motion to censure her brought by Republican Rep. Rich McCormick in what he has described as antisemitic rhetoric and “unbelievable falsehoods” by the Michigan Democrat, towards Israel.
“I will not be silenced and I will not let you distort my words,” she said. Tlaib added that her criticisms of Israel were of the Israeli government and of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
