WATCH: Category 4 Hurricane Ian makes landfall #shorts

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellites captured the eye of Hurricane Ian making landfall as a Category 4 storm at 3:05 p.m. near Cayo Costa, Florida.

Moving north-northeast at 9 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph, some parts of west Florida could see a storm surge as high as 16 feet.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had declared a state of emergency across the state on Saturday and more than 2.5 million people have been urged to evacuate.

Before making its way to Florida through the Gulf of Mexico, Ian struck western Cuba leaving at least two dead and the country’s electrical grid imperiled.
