So far 21 out of 23 members of President Biden’s Cabinet have been in sworn in, including the first Native American Cabinet secretary and the first openly gay Cabinet secretary, among other historic firsts. After being confirmed by the Senate, each nominee is ceremonially sworn in, reciting the oath of office. Two Cabinet-level positions remain unfilled. Biden’s nomination of Neera Tanden to head the Office of Management and Budget was withdrawn when she failed to secure the required 51 votes in the Senate. Eric Lander, nominated for director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy is still awaiting confirmation.
