Avril Haines, President-elect Joe Biden’s pick for the director of national intelligence, testified in a Senate confirmation hearing Jan. 19. If confirmed, she will be the first woman to serve in the role, which was created in the aftermath of 9/11. The hearing was one of several happening across Capitol Hill on Tuesday as lawmakers took their first steps toward formalizing Biden’s Cabinet.
