Catalytic converter thefts are surging nationwide. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the number of reported catalytic converter thefts increased from roughly 1,300 in 2018 to more than 14,400 in 2020. The PBS NewsHour’s Nicole Ellis spoke to David Glawe, president and CEO of the National Insurance Crime Bureau, to find out why these auto parts are being targeted, how you can protect your car and what to do if your catalytic converter is stolen
