Trump says he would ‘absolutely’ pardon Jan. 6 rioters

Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday he “absolutely” would pardon rioters who assaulted police officers at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, “if they’re innocent.”

At an interview with the Republican presidential nominee at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago, three journalists pressed Trump on immigration, abortion and other policy issues.

When asked by ABC News’ Rachel Scott if he would pardon rioters who assaulted around law enforcement officers who attempted to protect the Capitol on Jan. 6, Trump said he would if they were innocent.

“They were convicted,” Scott responded.

“Well, they were convicted by a very tough system,” Trump said.
