Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he intends to protect American women “whether the women like it or not.” The Republican nominee told rally attendees in Green Bay, Wisconsin, that his advisers told him not to say to say that he wants to protect women.
“They said, ‘We think it’s very inappropriate for you to say,'” Trump said just as members of the crowd cheered his remarks. “I pay these guys a lot of money, can you believe it? I said, ‘Well, I’m going to do it whether the women like it or not.’ I’m going to protect them. I’m going to protect them. I’m going to protect them from migrants coming in. I’m going to protect them from foreign countries that want to hit us with missiles and lots of other things.”
The former president went on later to say that “we’re going to protect our women at the border. … And also, we’re going to protect our men and our children. We’re going to protect everybody.”
The crowd inside the arena cheered after Trump asked, “Is there any woman in this stadium that wants to be protected by the president?”
A jury in New York convicted Trump earlier this year on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made during his 2016 presidential campaign to cover up a sexual encounter with an adult film actress. More than two dozen women have accused Trump of sexual misconduct.
