Safeline: Students invention aims to reduce dangers of hospital ICU delirium

Students in the bio-engineering club at Judge Memorial High School developed a medical device called Safeline to address the problem of hospital intensive care unit delirium. Thousands of patients a year cause significant harm to themselves by ripping out lines (catheters, I.V.s, ventilators, respirators) while delirious from injury or medication. Safeline is designed as a low cost, low tech solution that keeps delirious patients from ripping out their lines, without using restraints.

Produced by Amaia Horyna and Michael Eggert at Judge Memorial Catholic High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Instruction provided by SRL Connected Educator Chris Sloan.
