Dr. Ellis knew she wanted to be a doctor from a very early age. It all started when her beloved babysitter was diagnosed with a congenital heart condition so severe that often times her lips would turn blue. Jennifer wanted not only to know why this was happening, but how she could fix it. The question of how to make her babysitter better (and subsequently any other ill friend, family member or pet) was always in the back of Jennifer’s mind, propelling her forward throughout her academic and professional career.
Now, decades later, as one of only five African American, female, board certified cardiothoracic surgeons in the country, Dr. Ellis continues to push herself in her surgical practice helping thousands of people…get better.
