Quirky New Zealand-Based Murder Mystery BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES Premieres on WPBS July 29

WATERTOWN, NY (July 29, 2024) – Brokenwood Mysteries is set in a rustic New Zealand village where murder lurks around every corner. When a body is discovered, it’s up to Detective Mike Shepherd and Detective Kristin Sims to solve the case in every feature-length episode. This series honors the murder-mystery genre but as seen through a unique Kiwi lens, full of laconic humor, understated and grounded in real Kiwi archetypes. Brokenwood Mysteries premieres on WPBS-TV Mondays at 9:00 pm, starting July 29th.

EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS

Blood and Water (Monday, July 29 at 9:00 pm)

Shepherd wonders if a death was suicide, accidental death, or something more sinister.

Sour Grapes (Monday, August 5 at 9:00 pm)

The morning after choosing the winner of the annual Brokenwood wine show, a guest judge is found dead in one of the loser’s vats of fermenting Pinot noir. 

Playing the Lie (Monday, August 12 at 9:00 pm)

Four of the five committee members of Brokenwood Golf Club start on their regular morning round-only to find the horribly disfigured body of the fifth, in a bunker near the first green.

Hunting the Stag (Monday, August 26 at 9:00 pm)

During a hunting trip, three friends set off in pursuit of a kill, but one of them ends up with a bullet in the head. Who fired the fatal shot? 

Leather and Lace (Monday, September 9 at 9:00 pm)  

When DC Breen and his rugby team show up for practice, they are shocked to see their coach dead and tied to a goalpost.

To Die Or Not to Die  (Monday, September 16 at 9:00 pm)  

A young cast member, Ben Faulkner, dies at the end of a Hamlet performance. 

Catch of the Day (Monday, September 23 at 9:00 pm)

Jared discovers a severed human hand in a crayfish pot.

Blood Pink (Monday, September 30 at 9:00 pm)

Shepherd’s favorite musician is found electrocuted the next morning in her bathtub.
