President Biden renews call for assault weapon ban #shorts

President Joe Biden called on Congress to reinstate a ban on assault-style weapons during a speech Tuesday in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Congress passed bipartisan gun safety legislation in June after mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas. Since then, the president has repeatedly asked Congress to take more action.

“We beat the NRA. We took them on and beat the NRA straight up. You have no idea how intimidating they are to elected officials,” Biden said, referring to the National Rifle Association. “We’re not stopping here. I’m determined to
ban assault weapons in this country.”

As a U.S. senator, Biden was part of efforts to pass an assault weapons ban in 1994 that lasted for ten years. The law expired in 2004.
