Each holiday season since 2015, PBS News has asked U.S. military service personnel around the world to join together in singing a classic holiday song.
In 2022, service members presented a Hanukkah song, including one sung in Ladino, a Judeo-Spanish language.
These moments of holiday cheer, sung by those at home and abroad serving our country, were produced along with a little-known unit at the Defense Department called the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.

On St. Louis' south side, residents say they've adorned their neighborhood with thousands of Christmas lights for more than two decades. The street, affectionately known as Candy Cane Lane, comes alive each year right before the holiday season. Neighbors wrap trees lining the block in red and white, to resemble candy canes, they fill their yards with blow up characters, and erect tunnels made completely of sparkly lights.
Organizers say they do it, not just to spread holiday cheer, but also to raise money. Each year those who participate have the option to collect donations for their chosen charity from visitors. Over the years, they estimate they've been able to raise well over $200,000.

Congressional leaders are scrambling to prevent a government shutdown after the House of Representatives failed to pass a stopgap funding bill Thursday with hours left before the deadline.
Democrats and dozens of Republicans voted against President-elect Donald Trump's plan to fund federal operations and suspend the debt ceiling.
This comes after Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, whom Trump has enlisted the help of in this transition to the White House, criticized the original bipartisan plan House Speaker Mike Johnson reached earlier this week.
Johnson said the House is expected to vote again Friday morning on a measure to keep the government funded temporarily.

During Russian President Vladimir Putin's annual news conference, Putin was asked how he felt about President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter.
“As for Biden, you know, he is a politician and it is always important what is more in you, a politician or a human?” Putin said from Moscow. “It turned out that Biden was more of a human. I would not reproach him for this.”

After ABC agreed to pay $15 million to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by Trump, his legal team filed a suit against Ann Selzer and the Des Moines Register for a poll showing Kamala Harris leading.
