PBS News Weekly: Helene’s aftermath, war in the Middle East and the VP debate | Oct. 4, 2024

This week, we look at the top three stories from here in the U.S. and abroad. Vice presidential nominees Tim Walz and JD Vance took the stage this week for their first, and only, debate, as they tackled immigration, abortion and housing prices, among other issues.

This, while a crisis was unfolding in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which has become one of the deadliest storms to hit the U.S. in the last 50 years, killing at least 200 people. And in the Middle East, concerns over a wider war are escalating as violence between Israel, Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon is ramping up.
