One Week Until the Eclipse on April 8, 2024

WATERTOWN, NY (April 1, 2024) – WPBS is proud to participate in the City of Watertown’s Total Eclipse of the Park event on April 8th, 2024 at Thompson Park, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. A rare total solar eclipse will pass directly over Watertown, placing the city in the path of totality and complete darkness for 3 minutes and 39 seconds. This event will see tens of thousands of people visiting to share in this awesome celestial event, and WPBS will be in the heart of it. The two-nation public television station will be sharing eclipse safety, along with video specials of eclipse science from the program NOVA – the most-watched prime time science series on American television. WPBS will also be distributing eclipse viewing glasses, so that everyone will be safely able to enjoy this incredible event. Mark your calendars for April 8, 2024! On this date, visitors and residents in Watertown, New York will see a total solar eclipse from the best location in New York State for viewing this once-in-a-lifetime event. The City of Watertown sits directly in the center of the “path of totality” and at approximately 3:22 PM on April 8, 2024, Watertown will plunge into darkness for three minutes and 39 seconds. To mark this momentous occasion, the City of Watertown will host “Total Eclipse of the Park” at historic Thompson Park.
