Early in-person voting in North Carolina started Thursday, as parts of the state are still recovering from Hurricane Helene.
The storm’s most destructive impact was in western North Carolina, where entire communities were swept away and thousands still lack access to clean water.
In Buncombe County, home to Asheville, 16 out of the 80 Election Day polling locations had to be relocated because of flood damage or the building is being used as a relief distribution center.
