Fauci: U.S. mask guidance will stay the same ‘right now’

The U.S. guidance on masks for most vaccinated people isn’t changing “right now,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said Tuesday in an interview with PBS NewsHour anchor and managing editor Judy Woodruff. Fauci, the president’s chief medical advisor, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would revise its recommendations if the country’s virus data changes. On Friday, the World Health Organization urged everyone to continue wearing masks indoors, including those who had received COVID-19 shots. The difference, Fauci said, is that “the World Health Organization has to deal with recommendations for the entire planet, which is an undervaccinated planet.” He added: “In the United States, it’s a bit different.”
