Rock Island Lighthouse, off Fisher’s Landing, NY (St. Lawrence River)
Former Pirate Bill Johnston was appointed keeper in 1852
The original structure was a combination lighthouse / keeper’s house constructed in 1847
The current lighthouse, built in 1882, replaced that structure.
Many of the original structures built on the island are still standing, including:
Generator House (1900)
Boathouse (1920)
Fieldstone Smokehouse (1847)
Shingle Style Keeper’s House (1882)
Maintained today as a park by the 1000 Islands State Parks Commission
During the summer months, the public is free to wander around or picnic on the island.
